The Ionian Sea offers an attractive environment in which to sail, regardless of your level of experience. The southern Ionian is often known as the cruising capital of the Mediterranean and especially of Greece.
In the southern Ionian, distances between islands are not too long and as they are close together, the sea remains reasonably flat as the wind picks up. The prevailing wind is from the northwest. Mornings are generally calm, perfect for learning; the wind tends to pick up in the afternoon, calming down in the early evening.
The islands offer small harbours and villages, varying in character for island to island—from small fishing hamlets, only accessible by boat, to slightly larger villages that offer more facilities.
With the added asset of an airport on 45 minutes from Lefkas, the southern Ionian is very accessible. See our links page for more information on the area.
